Volunteer Story – Peter Wilson
We asked our volunteers to answer some questions about their experience of volunteering with CPRE Gloucestershire and their thoughts on the countryside.
Peter Wilson
Q: How did you come to be involved with CPRE?
A: Around 1994 my sister in law got me to a local AGM soon after I had retired.
Q: What has your experience of volunteering with CPRE Gloucestershire been like?
A: Very friendly members, with a keen wish to preserve what is good whilst accepting that more housing is inevitable. Admiration for their knowledge of planning law. Would like to see more planning attention to the layout of estates and house design to maximise natural light, heat and solar power, as a planning permission condition.
Q: What was your first connection with the countryside?
A: I was born on a farm.
Q: What do you value most about the countryside?
A: Quiet, changing seasons, bird song, long distance views
Q: What’s your favourite countryside spot in Gloucestershire to visit?
A: From the top of Swifts Hill in the early morning across the Slad valley with a distant view of the Severn – alas no longer able to do so due to disablement in old age, so now the view from Coaley Peak car park, Selsey Common, across the Severn Vale to the Forest of Dean.
Q: Tell us about some of the work you carry out for CPRE Gloucestershire
A: I was Treasurer of my local district for a while until other activities took my time, but willing until loss of mobility to visit proposed building sites. I regularly attend CPRE Gloucestershire meetings.
